A timeline of muzzle devices
The current L119A1 we all know too well with its FH556-216A wasn’t always sporting that Surefire flash hider. Of course there was, and sometime still is, the Diemaco / Colt Canada A2 bird cage muzzle device. But to attach the FA556 suppressor, the UKSF relied on the old FH556-212A flash hider.

Reddit user Bryonfunderburg posted this awesome shot allowing the best comparison between the classic A2 muzzle and the SFCT and 212A flash hiders.

The B.E Meyers extravaganza
I told you in the excerpt this post was about a one-off. The only photo, that I’m aware of at least, showcasing a 15.7″ L119A1 with what looks to a vanilla B.E. Meyers 249F flash hider.

And by vanilla I mean, it doesn’t look like the Surefire x B.E. Meyers cooperation flash hider revealed at Shot Show 2008 which allowed for mounting SF suppressors. The angle at which the photo was taken could be deceptive, and it could very will be a specific offering that was trialled by UKSF before the FH556-216A arrived.

Both photos come from the Defense Review’s coverage of said Shot Show.
The KAC muzzle ?
Last year Andys_gasworks posted an interesting information about the very first L119A1s being issued with a Knights Armament flash hider to mount the NT4 suppressor which was binned early on due to reliability issues. I’ve never noticed any KAC muzzle device on the old L119A1 photos but that also might be down to the lower resolutions. One of the C8 SFW used in the trials shows a classic Diemaco A2 style flash hider too.

While similar to the latter, the Knights’ one features a thread running down a major lengh of the flash hider. The easy way to identify it against similar older style bird cage hiders is the very noticeable angled indexing notch to the front (see left).
If you have spotted one on a photo, I’m more than interested to see it !
