ITW – 2010 : Accuracy International PSR prototype

Posted on May 6, 2023August 31, 2025 by Switch

From 2009 to 2013, the US SOCOM placed a sollicitation to replace all the bolt-action sniper rifles in use at the time. While the Remington Modular Sniper Rifle (MSR) was awarded the contract under the MK21 PSR designation, a few other well known manufacturers contended for the win. Unsurprisingly, Accuracy International was one of them. The British icon was already supplying both Delta Force and Devgroup with their AW Magnum rifles, among others.

Top : Delta’s .300 Winchester magnum AWM. / Right : Devgroup’s .338 Lapua magnum AWM.

For the PSR program AI entered the entirely new rifle they’ve working on for the UKSF : the AX338. Most precision rifle nerds like me are already familliar with the Pale Brown AXMC with a skeleton stock that competed in the later years of the program.

The final AI contender for the PSR sollicitation was an AXMC.

But their very first entry was based on the, at the time, new AX338. Here comes a pre-2014 AX338 with a flutted barrel. The scope is more than likely the Schmidt & Bender 5-25×56 PMII mounted on a Larue LT112. And contrary to the final PSR entry and Delta Force’s own AXs, it features the AI Dark Earth colour instead of Pale Brown.

The PSR prototype ran the 2010 competition alongside a similarly painted and equipped Larue OBR.

Foreword

After years of posting my nitpicking on cloning real rifles and reenacting specific regiments on multiple social media platforms, it was time that I regroup it all in one place.

You'll find here everything I posted about on my Instagram : clone projects, kits, in the wild spotting and books I've read.

As a bonus, there will be a few complete guides on specific familly of rifles.
