2003 – Operation Iraqi Freedom – The early days

Posted on February 28, 2017August 19, 2025 by Switch

A-Squadron reenactment team 3rd op

The conclusion of an eventful week-end. While the Tora Bora op was the main event, we took the opportunity of a great place to shoot some more photos. Goodbye Afghanistan, and welcome back to Iraq at the very beginning of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

The early 2003 Delta Force in its glory : Blackhawk D.O.A.V.s and full lengh M4A1s (left).

Now the setting also came with a quite well expected difficulty. None of us owns any military vehicle. So, we’re doing a photo op of what was mostly a mounted armed reconnaissance without the main course. It’s OK, we assumed operators still had to dismount and take photos without showing their workhorses.

Another fun bit for myself : no more UKSF, I’d be an extra Delta operator this time. Thankfully, my comrades were able to outfit me with a spare D.O.A.V. and matching accessories for my L119A1…I mean my M4A1.

Thanks again to Yannick and Beezman for being the utmost dedicated photographers on this one too !

A-Squadron does have its own Instagram account.

Foreword

After years of posting my nitpicking on cloning real rifles and reenacting specific regiments on multiple social media platforms, it was time that I regroup it all in one place.

You'll find here everything I posted about on my Instagram : clone projects, kits, in the wild spotting and books I've read.

As a bonus, there will be a few complete guides on specific familly of rifles.
