2001 – Tora Bora – Hunting Season

Posted on March 26, 2017August 27, 2025 by Switch

A-squadron reenactment team 2nd op

After having a great time while shooting the 2014 early OIF photo op, we decided to get back at it in 2017. The group goes back again in time to the early days of the war in Afghanistan. When Delta Force and a handful of Special Boat Service commandos went hunting for the most wanted man in the world : Ossama Bin Laden.

With such a good premise, and being a huge fan of books depicting that story such as Kill Bin Laden (Dalton Fury), I couldn’t resist turning the photos into our own book, writting every caption next to the photos. And making quite a remarkable fake front page, that everybody wished they could get at the local library. While always tagged and described as reenactment, with some added digital painting to make it look like a book scan, it’s always been funny to read online posts about where to buy this book.

The story telling is strong in this one, and later compelled me into making a real book out of my different reenactment photos. But this will be for another time.

My kit : a bare L110A2 supplemented by a Magro chest rig and the period iconic cedar green Berghaus with its two DPM rocket pouches. Except on this photo, I only wore civilian clothing. / Pampam’s kit : the infamous long L119A1 with underslung L17A1 grenade launcher and Trijicon ACOG TA01 on top of a PLCE chest rig and issued DPM bergen.

Pampam and I again tagged along as the two British commandos embedded into a CAG squadron composed of Ubik, Tiri, Wex and La Grinche. The group got helped by Yannick and Beezman as our photographers, and in the case of the former he got to play as both an extra brit’ and the CIA SAD operative.

A-Squadron does have its own Instagram account.

Enough talking, I’ll let you enjoy what could be one of my favorite reenactment album.

Foreword

After years of posting my nitpicking on cloning real rifles and reenacting specific regiments on multiple social media platforms, it was time that I regroup it all in one place.

You'll find here everything I posted about on my Instagram : clone projects, kits, in the wild spotting and books I've read.

As a bonus, there will be a few complete guides on specific familly of rifles.
